The Oscars ceremony was this weekend’s big television event and after polling over 1,000 people, we found that most did not watch it live. In fact, many turned to social media to get their Oscar updates.
Though Facebook was THE go-to platform, every social network was abuzz with commentary in both text and video forms. Can you guess which celebrities were featured most in Oscars social videos?
As you know, our Wochit media library updates in real-time so that social media managers, bloggers and news outlets could make videos using the best and most relevant content, whether they choose to cover #OscarsSoWhite, red carpet looks, or Stacy Dash’s awkward appearance.
Today we decided to utilize our media library to give out some awards of our own – we dug deep into the data to find out exactly which celebrities our community of thousands of videomakers decided to focus their videos on before and after the Oscars!
And the Winners are…
1. Male Lead: Leonardo DiCaprio
No surprises here, Leonardo DiCaprio clearly dominated the Wochit media library searches both before and after the Oscars.
2. Female Lead: Alicia ViKander
Alicia ViKander was definitely the dark horse of the ceremony with virtually no videomakers searching for her in our media library before the Oscars. However, after winning her Oscar for Best Supporting Actress, she quickly became the second most searched Oscar-winner. What a win!
3. Runners-Up: Lady Gaga, Chris Rock, Kate Winslet, Cate Blanchett, Brie Larson and Jennifer Lawrence
Astoundingly, six celebs managed to tie in at third place. All were extremely popular in our media library searches, but not enough to win more than a bronze medal.
Most notable on the list is Lady Gaga. Media library searches for “Lady Gaga” images and footage increased by 400% after the Oscars, likely thanks to her performance of “Til It Happens to You” (from The Hunting Ground) which made waves across social.
