Add & Edit Clipped Segments on the Timeline

Add Media to Timeline

Now that you’ve added media to your Lightbox, it’s time to add those image and videos to the Timeline to start putting together your video.

To add media:

  1. Click and drag images and videos from the Lightbox down to the Timeline and release
  2. In a No Voice-Over video you will notice the media snaps to the previous asset. In a video with Voice-Over you can place the asset over the relevant text until you fill your Timeline.
  3. To move an asset on your Timeline, simply click and drag it to the desired position

Edit Clipped Media on the Timeline

In a typical work flow, you would set the clip’s in and out points, or mark the clip, during Media Selection.

While working on the Timeline and putting together your video you might realize that you need to trim the clip or edit the selected segment entirely. Wochit has a few different features to help you do this.

Trimming the Clip

The first, is by trimming the clip directly on the Timeline. This would be used if you decided for example you wanted to cut to the next clip a little sooner than you had originally planned. Or,  if you realized you needed to grab a little more of that originally clip because you cut off the end too early.

To trim the clip on the Timeline:

  1. First, make sure that the clip you want to trim is on the Timeline
  2. Click on the clip to select it, you should see a blue handle marking the in and out point on either side of the clip and the toolbar with the edit pencil, scissors, duplicate and trashcan icons
  3. To shorten the clip from the end, click on the blue handle and pull it in. You should see the duration timer on the clip going down
  4. Release the blue handle at the desired length and the clip will begin to process at the new length

You can also shorten the clip from the beginning by selecting the blue handle at the in point and dragging it in.

To include more footage from the original video:

  1. First, make sure that the clip you want to edit is on the Timeline
  2. Click on the clip to select it, you should see a blue handle marking the in and out point on either side of the clip and the toolbar with the edit pencil, scissors, duplicate and trashcan icons
  3. To add more footage to the end of the clip from the original video, click on the blue handle and pull it out to the right. You should see the duration timer going up.
  4. Release the blue handle at the desired length and the clip will begin to process at the new length

You can also add more media to the beginning of the clip by selecting the blue handle at the in point and dragging it out to the left side.

Split Tool

The second,  is to use the scissor tool to split the selected clip into two pieces. This is an ideal tool if you want to use an overlay like the quote tool on only a part of the original segment you cut.

  1. Make sure the clip you want to splice is on the Timeline
  2. Click on the clip on the Timeline to select it, you should see a blue handle marking the in and out point on either side of the clip and the toolbar with the edit pencil, scissors, and trashcan icons
  3. Drag the pink scrubber to the point where you want the clip to split.
  4. Once you reach the desired point, click on the scissor icon in the toolbar
  5. The two clips will begin to process. Any overlays, including text overlays, quotes, supers or credits will be seen on both copies.

Duplicate a Clip

When working on the Timeline you will see the option to duplicate or copy an asset from the Toolbar.

  1. Make sure the clip you want to copy is on the Timeline
  2. Click on the clip on the Timeline to select it, you should see a blue handle marking the in and out point on either side of the clip and the toolbar with the edit pencil, scissors, duplicate and trashcan icons
  3. Click the duplicate icon to create a copy of the asset
  4. The two clips will begin to process. Any overlays, including text overlays, quotes, supers or credits will be on both copies.
